Statement: AISD Will Update Community About Walnut Creek Classes and Operations Tonight

District leaders continue to complete safety and security checklist

AUSTIN, Texas鈥擳he 麻豆果冻传媒 Independent School District has released a statement about the status of classes and operations at Walnut Creek Elementary School after an early morning fire at the campus today:

AISD continues to complete its safety and security checklist at Walnut Creek Elementary School after a fire was reported in one of its classrooms early this morning. The fire was contained to the 100 (prekindergarten) wing, but the damage from smoke necessitated the cancelation of all of the classes at the school today.

Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz walked the campus with Principal Paul Perez this afternoon. Throughout the day, AISD leaders from facilities, transportation, food services and the police department have been at the campus to inspect and oversee the evaluation of the structural, mechanical and electrical (power), air quality and safety systems to ensure the building is safe for the return of students.

Later tonight, AISD will provide an update to Walnut Creek families and the community about tomorrow's classes and school operations鈥攁fter the district completes its safety and security checklist and can guarantee the campus is prepared for students.

AISD will provide updates through the district鈥檚 website, social media channels and e-mail and telephone notifications systems and through local media.
